Le Roy, New York
Elena Victorita Glenn McCrary, 28, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, at home in LeRoy, New York, surrounded by her loving family, following a brief battle with cancer. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, dog mom, and friend.
Born on May 27, 1997, in Braila, Romania, Elena was lovingly welcomed into the arms of Lawrence “Allen” Glenn and Linda Sorensen at the age of three. Together, they raised Elena and her older sister, Anjali Glenn, with unconditional love and devotion. From the very beginning, Elena was a light-beautiful, vibrant, and deeply loved-and she remained that light to everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Elena arrived on St. John, USVI, as a three-year-old and was greeted by the Fourth of July parade. From then on, her childhood was one of interesting experiences and new friendships. As a kindergartner, she and Anjali -met Julia Pergolizzi, beginning a close sister-like friendship that would last a lifetime. The three spent their free time kayaking, rock jumping, sailing, playing Marco Polo in the pool, and doing the 8 Tuff Mile Race together with Linda. Elena also competed in the Beach to Beach Swim on the North Shore. At age eight, Elena and Anjali’s parents surprised them with two miniature poodles, Cream and Kahlua, who became the pride and joy of the family for many years.
Among the many special parts of Elena’s childhood were traveling across the United States in the family RV and spending summers at The Elms, a family lake house in Canandaigua, New York. It was there, in the kitchen of “The Cottage,” that Elena’s love of cooking truly grew. From helping her dad whip up pancakes, to assisting her Grammies with luncheon parties for 50, to preparing entire meals for the many vacationing family on her own, Elena loved every moment. She especially loved seeing others enjoy the meals she made with such care.
Elena was fortunate to call many places home throughout her life, including St. John, US Virgin Islands; Webster, Canandaigua, and LeRoy, New York; Eugene, Oregon; Golden, Colorado; Burnsville, North Carolina; and Boston, Massachusetts.
Elena was raised in the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in St. John, USVI, where the congregation became an important part of her early life and spiritual foundation. Throughout her life, she continued to find comfort, community and lifelong friends in the UU faith, also attending the Jefferson Unitarian Church in Golden, Colorado.
Throughout her childhood, Elena attended a variety of schools, reflecting her unique and adventurous upbringing. Among them were Pine Peace School and Gifft Hill School in St. John, Arthur Morgan School in Celo, North Carolina, Free Horizon Montessori School and Thomas Jefferson Education Homeschooling group in Golden, Colorado. She and her family enjoyed living in their RV at Clear Creek Campground and then at Harmony Village Cohousing in Golden, Colorado for her 6th and 7th grade school years.
After high school, Elena attended Finger Lakes Community College, where she graduated in 2022 with an Associate’s degree in Paralegal and Legal Studies. While enrolled at FLCC, she worked full-time at the law firm Bronk & Somers. During her four years there, she also earned her Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies from SUNY Canton. After graduating in August 2024, Elena left Bronk & Somers and was hired as a paralegal at Wesley, Clark & Peshkin in July 2025, where she worked until her diagnosis in late October 2025.
In 2018, Elena excitedly shared that she had met Kevin—and his beloved dog, Lola—for whom she quickly fell head over heels. Their love blossomed into a life together filled with date nights with friends, time spent with family, and cozy evenings snuggling Lola on the couch. In 2020, they began searching for a home, and in August, they purchased their Le Roy house. Kevin, a volunteer firefighter, encouraged Elena to join the LeRoy Fire Department Auxiliary, where she formed friendships with many of the firefighters and their spouses. On December 17, 2022, in the living room of their home, Kevin got down on one knee and asked Elena to marry him—with Lola there as witness. She, of course, said yes. From that day on, it was full-throttle wedding planning, leading to a magical wedding celebration on July 21, 2024, at The Sterling in Akron, New York, surrounded by family, friends, and so much love.
Elena was preceded in death by her father, Allen Glenn; grandparents, Ruth and Arnold Sorensen (Webster, NY) and Maurice and Elsa Glenn (Eugene, OR); half-sister, Tamara Glenn (Eugene, OR); and mother-in-law, Mary Lou McCrary (Castile, NY).
She is survived by her husband, Kevin McCrary; her mother, Linda Sorensen; her sister, Anjali Glenn (Dustin Harrison); her half-brother, Charles Glenn (Karen Glenn), her dog, Lola; and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends who loved her deeply and will always miss her.
