Scottsville: On October 9, 2014 at age 78. Predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Joseph Berger; brother, James Berger; nephew, Joseph Stadelmeyer. Survived by his wife of 54 years, Carole Berger; loving children, Bill (JoBeth Rath) Berger, Ruth (David) Robishaw, Jeff (Kelly) Berger, Maggie (Garret) Manchester, John (Kathleen Simonds) DiStefano; beloved grandchildren, Samantha, Hannah, Liam and Ethan Berger, Faith, Ashley and Lauren Manchester, Alex Robishaw. He is also survived by his sisters, Ruth Berger, Maria (James) Smith, Beatrice (Walter) Evans; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Kenneth Stubella; sister-in-law, Patricia Lloyd. John is also survived by many nieces, nephews; and his horse, Cheyenne (Aka Pony).
John served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1957 and was very proud of his service especially in Alaska. He was in the tree business all of his working life and had a great love for the outdoors. The place he loved the most was the family land in Springville, NY, where he also found peace in the woods.
Friends may call Monday 2-4, 6-8PM at the J.H. Cameron Funeral Home, 26 Rochester St., Scottsville. On Tuesday at 10AM there will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Scottsville. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in John’s name to the building fund at Golisano Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 278996 300 E. River Rd., Roch., NY 14627.
