David Starr Stevens, 71, of Leroy, died unexpectedly on October 18, 2014 at the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

He was born on January 31, 1943 in Batavia, a son of the late Earl and Ardis Stevens, and was a lifelong resident of Leroy.

David graduated from LeRoy Central School in 1961 where he was class Valedictorian. He earned a scholarship and attended Hamilton College, earned his BA degree from the University of Rochester, attended the University of California at Berkley, and received his Masters Degree in Library Science from SUNY Geneseo. His many interests led him to attend GCC in Batavia for numerous courses in the last few years.

In all of these endeavors, David was a true Renaissance Man. He loved to acquire knowledge and could often be seen at the Woodward Memorial Library researching his latest interest on their computers. He also loved to share stories from his vast knowledge of the history of LeRoy.

David was active in the LeRoy Volunteer Ambulance for many years and was a 59-year member of the First Baptist Church of LeRoy where he was serving on the Board of Trustees, singing in the choir, and attending the men's Bible study group at the time of his passing.

David is survived by his twin sister, Deborah (Charles) Lincoln of Washington State, three nieces and numerous grandnieces and cousins.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service for David will be held at the First Baptist Church of LeRoy, 5 Main Street, LeRoy, NY on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 11:00 AM.
